Refurbishment of Zartosht building - Tehran, Iran - 8500m2 - Design Proposal

The refurbishment of the former Cyrus shopping mall in Tehran to provide the emerging Iranian technology scene with a contemporary high tech campus that is deeply rooted in local building techniques and programs. In collaboration with Transsolar, we investigated ancient Persian architectural technologies specifically adapted to the harsh climate at the foothills of the Elburs mountains, to inform a number of passive/active hybrid building systems. Centrepiece of the campus will be a moss and water vapor airfiltering courtyard, that works without electrical energy to cleanse the smog filled downtown air as it enters the building.
